Yasuhisa Hara is the creator and illustrator of the Japanese comic series The Kingdom. Pierrot IKF and Studio Signpost have also released and created anime adaptations. The anime has already been published in two seasons, and it was confirmed on December 15th, 2019, that the anime will be renewed for a third season. The Kingdom’s third season premiered on April 6, 2021. In Japan, it broadcast on the original network NHK General Tv, then Funimation acquired the rights to stream it worldwide for an international audience.

Recap of Kingdom Season 3 Episode 17
In the Kingdom season 3 episode 17 recap, after conquering Ryuudou, Riboku commends Duke Hyou on his achievement. However, he emphasises that he will not be fighting himself. Houken comes on the battlefield and prepared to engage Duke Hyou in combat. The battlefield’s mood shifts with Houken’s entrance. Houken approaches Duke Hyou and introduces himself. He observes that Houken provides no hints of generality. Duke makes a stand against Houken and resolves to battle him; in the meantime, he directs his other men to pursue Riboku.
The combat begins, and the first cut from Houken knocks Duke Hyou to the ground. He makes a small piercing through his shoulder. Duke Hyou exchanges words with Riboku and then with Houken, which irritates him significantly. This time, Duke strikes Houken and manages to force him away. Shin arrives at the battlefield, but Duke tells him to proceed since it is not his place to die. He then turns his focus to Houken and delivers a powerful strike to him. Houken cuts his arm, but Duke catches him off surprise and proceeds to strangle him out. It doesn’t take long for Houken to emerge from it and murder Duke. Shin marches forward, overcome by passion, but Heki pulls him back and instructs him to follow Duke’s orders. Riboku orders his men to inform Kanyou about the Duke’s death.

The news reaches the capital in Kingdom season 3 episode 18 spoilers. They also convey information of Duke Hyou’s death and Houken’s arrival. Following the recent news, a riot has erupted in the capital. Shi alerts Shobunkun to the fact that Ryufui’s men have collected a group of assassins. They are most likely after the king. If Ryufui is successful in assassinating the king and offering his body to the coalition, he will be awarded a fitting position in the new administration.
Shobunkun notices that King has risen from his seat. Sei meets with Shouhekun to talk about something. He informs him that there is still a Sai city that may be utilised to stop Riboku. He proposes going to the city to stir people and get them to fight for Qin. The word of Sei’s departure from Sai travels across the court. Ryufui inquires of Shouhekun whether he offered any advise to Sei during their conversation. Shouhekun responds that everything else than the continuing battle is insignificant. Meanwhile, the Shin unit arrives in Sai very tired. However, when they see Sei’s face, their morale returns.
