Katsura Hoshino is the author and illustrator of the Japanese manga series D.Gray-man. It is set in an alternate 19th century and chronicles the narrative of a young Allen Walker who joins the Black Order, an exorcist group. They fight a villain known as the Millennium Earl and his demonic army of Akuma who want to destroy humanity with an ancient chemical called Innocence. Many of the characters, such as Zone, are based on Hoshino’s prior works and draughts. Hoshino reportedly changed a scene she thought was too violent for her young readers because she thought it was too dark for her young readers.

D.Gray-Man

The storey of Allen Walker, who joins the Black Order and becomes an Exorcist, is set in a fictional nineteenth century. The Order’s mission is to stop The Earl of Millennium from using his Akuma army to destroy humanity.

Allen and his other Exorcists are able to combat Akuma with the use of an ancient material known as Innocence, which is the only thing that can kill them. When the Earl gathers the Noah Family, superhuman descendants of Noah who despise Innocence and have the power to destroy it, the holy conflict becomes even more intense.
