Tower of God is a webtoon written and drawn by S.I.U. Since June 2010, it has been serialised on Naver Corporation’s webtoon platform Naver Webtoon, with individual chapters being collected and published by Young Com into eight volumes as of July 2021. Beginning in July 2014, Line Webtoon began providing official English translations for Tower of God.

Tower of God

The storey of Tower of God revolves around a little kid named Twenty-Fifth Bam. It’s worth noting that in Korea, the word ‘Bam’ may signify either ‘Night’ or ‘Chestnut.’ He’s spent the most of his life confined beneath a massive and enigmatic Tower, with just his close friend Rachel for companionship. Bam is saddened as Rachel enters the Tower. Bam manages to open the Tower’s entrance in some way. He will now go to any length to see Rachel again, even if it costs death. When he enters the Tower, he is greeted by comrades who will assist him in ascending the tower.

“The Tower” is a strange construction with several diverse settings that is entirely contained. It is pervaded by a mysterious substance known as “Shinsu,” which possesses properties that are akin to magic in other comic worlds. It is home to a diverse range of intelligent creatures. A greater position in the Tower and better living circumstances are connected with residing on the top levels. This is due to the fact that climbing from one storey to the next requires passing progressively tough tests of strength, dexterity, and intelligence. Regulars are members of the Outer Tower who have decided to ascend the Inner Tower’s tower. Rankers are former Regulars who have risen to the top of the Tower and are typically far more strong than others. The lowest levels are frequently administered by rankers. The “10 Great Families,” the Tower’s ruling body, are seated at the summit of the Tower. The body’s primary leader is a person known as King Jahad (or ‘Zahard’ in certain versions).

Each level is made up of three layers: an exterior Outer Tower that serves as a living space, an Inner Tower where individuals are tested, and a Middle Area that serves as a network connecting all of the floors. Residents of each floor are granted the opportunity to climb if they are considered “worthy” by Headon, the First Floor’s Guardian and Tower’s caretaker. In Tower of God, these people are known as “Chosen Regulars.” Portentous, unbreakable doors separate the Tower from the vast, unknown “Outside.” Extraordinary people are only able to unlock the doors and enter the Tower on rare occasions. In the manhwa, such people are known as “Irregulars,” and Twenty-Fifth Bam is one of them.

Each level, according to the author, is the size of the continent of North America. Each level has its own culture, language, and governing structure, and it’s not unusual for nations to live in isolation, oblivious of the tower’s existence.

Only Irregulars are immune from Jahad’s pact with the Tower Guardians, which granted him immortality. As a result, only an Irregular has the ability to murder Jahad. Much of the storyline in Tower of God revolves around this fact.
