This week, Solo Leveling returns with another history lesson from the Shadow Monarch and a major decision for Jin-Woo to make. Chapter 163 demonstrates how complex and fascinating the universe of Solo Leveling has become – and the wonderful art certainly helps.
Sung Jinwoo had met with the King of the Dead, who recounted how his life had been ruined and how everything had ended when he returned from battle. After being struck by the Fragment of Brilliant Light and taking the role of the Rulers, the creatures known as the New Gods perished. To track down the Sovereigns, they employ a variety of instruments that hold the ultimate being’s power. Legia, the King of Giants, was captured by the Rulers. The equilibrium between the two sides remained precarious after the capture of the King of the Giants, and eventually collapsed. That period was exploited by the King of the Dead to approach the Sovereigns. Their only alternative was to join forces with the King of the Dead in order to fight the shared enemy, The Rulers. As the ”Shadow Monarch,” the King of the Dead maintained his never-ending war. As they slaughtered numerous soldiers and the battlefield became littered with dead, time worked in his favour.
During the fight, King of the Dead gains a new ally and joins arms with the army of Destruction led by King of Beersek Dragons. The King of Dead was dreaded by the Monarchs and Rulers because he was unstoppable. The Monarchs developed a strategy to assassinate the King of the Dead, and when they attacked, they nearly decimated his Shadow Army. During the fight, the King of the Dead is betrayed, and The Beast Monarch and The King of the Beast leave their men and flee. Baran, the King of Demons and Monarch of White Flames, paid a high price. However, the warriors chose to pursue peace rather than slay the King of the Dead.
It’s certainly safe to assume that Jin-decision Woo’s did not come as a major surprise – but how will he go from here? Are you eager to find out? Spoilers for Chapter 164 of Solo Leveling
Chapter 163 went through more of the intricacies of the realm of Solo-Leveling. The Jin-trip Woo’s appears to go beyond chance and coincidence; the Shadow Monarch picked him as his vessel.
Our hero began as the weakest hunter of his age, yet he was far from helpless. In some ways, he has always cheated the system, even before being bestowed with the abilities of the Shadow Monarch and the ability to level up indefinitely. He had several near-death experiences, yet he always lived. As a result, he was ideal for the Shadow Monarch.
By the end of the chapter, Jin-Woo, unsurprisingly, abandons his death fantasy in favour of returning and fighting. While no spoilers are available at this time, we believe the history lesson is done and the struggle against the Monarchs will resume.
